Isuzu has officially unveiled a “significantly improved” version of its D-Max that will go on sale before the start of 2024.
This marks the first update to the third-generation model since it was launched three years ago, with the ute receiving updates to the front end, wheels, taillights, and interior.
Starting with the exterior, the facelift D-Max now wears sharper daytime running lights (DRLs) that flank a taller and wider grille up front, leading towards a newly added power bulge on the bonnet.

No changes have been made to the side profile of the ute, but the rear end now has a new set of taillights that feature a triple L-shaped LED, making the D-Max look as if its “a bird spreading its wings”.
The interior remains largely untouched, with high-spec variants getting a 9.0-inch infotainment touchscreen, while lower-spec models get a 7.0-inch unit.
Changes have however been made to the radio volume and tuning controls which have now been replaced by two easier-to-use dials. One thing some users might not be too impressed with is a move from physical buttons to touch-sensitive buttons for various infotainment functions.

Rounding out the new additions inside is a U-shaped instrument panel that now houses a 7.0-inch digital display between two analogue gauges.
Nothing has changed under the bonnet, with the facelift D-Max retaining the familiar 3.0-litre turbo diesel four-cylinder with 140kW and 450Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox.
A new safety camera has been installed up front which can detect oncoming crossing pedestrians at an intersection and apply the brakes if a collision is possible.

Updates to the four-wheel drive system mean there’s more traction on slippery surfaces, while a new ‘rough terrain’ driving mode controls power output and brake application when off-road.
There’s no word on when the 2024 Isuzu D-Max will go on sale in New Zealand, but we expect the new model to arrive at the end of this year or the start of the next.
