Korean carmaker KGM has marked the arrival of its first model since rebranding from SsangYong, the Torres, with pricing and specification now being announced for New Zealand.
Three variants are available for Kiwis to choose from, starting with the standard Torres for $49,990, a four-wheel drive variant for $54,990, and the fully electric EVX for $67,990, or $66,990 for the first 40 customers.
“Torres is the first model to reinterpret KGM’s future design vision. Its launch marks an exciting, new era for design, performance, and product innovation with all KGM models moving forward adhering to this new approach,” says KGM New Zealand General Manager, Kym Mellows.
Under the bonnet of the combustion-engined Torres is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder making 120kW and 280Nm of torque, mated to a six-speed automatic.
As for the EVX, it features a 73.4kWh battery offering a range of up to 462km, sending power to a single electric motor up front that produces 150kW and 339Nm of torque.
Like the petrol, the electric Torres can tow up to 1500kg braked and 500kg unbraked. Its battery can also be used as a mobile energy bank for appliances thanks to the model’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) function.
Inside, you’ll find a pair of 12.3-inch displays, one for the driver and the other for the infotainment system, the latter of which supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity as standard. Also included is Bluetooth, a DAB radio, front USB-C and AUX ports, and a six-speaker sound system.
Thanks to its width of 1890mm, the Torres boasts a storage capacity between 703 and 1662 litres, as well as a concealed space under the floor to keep certain items out of sight.
The KGM Torres is available in New Zealand showrooms now.
