Critics said it would struggle in the wake of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May’s departure, but several years on the BBC’s Top Gear appears to be pressing on quite comfortably.
Overnight the car show released its latest trailer for the upcoming new season, giving numerous clues as to what to expect with messrs Chris Harris, Freddie Flintoff, and Paddy McGuinness.
After a rough start, it appears that the show has found new balance with this new assortment; McGuinness and Flintoff bringing comedy and that signature post-professional-cricket-player yobbishness, with Harris sewing it all together.
The new series appears to threaten the show’s notorious penchant for destroying caravans, with the trio going caravaning with three electric vehicles; a Polestar 2, Mercedes-Benz EQC, and an Audi e-tron sportback.
In what’s effectively a complete binary segment, the trio also look set to compare three gas-chugging performance cars; the Alfa Romeo Giulia GTAm, Aston Martin Vantage F1 Edition, and a McLaren 765LT, doing so on-track at the British Grand Prix.
The season even gets a touch of Kiwiana, thanks to a segment that, for some reason, includes zorbing; something we All Black-lovers invented. The Lamborghini STO, Aston Martin Victor, and the iconic DeLorean DMC-12 and Lada Niva also feature in what looks to be an interesting series.
