Great Scott; DeLorean is making a return to the automotive world.
Yeah, you read that right. The Texas-based manufacturer responsible for making the iconic, in a movie sense of the word, DMC-12 is poised to launch an electric sports car later this year.
It will be called the DeLorean EVolved, a snazzier name than DMC-12 but sadly isn’t expected to look as ridiculous as the plaything that was DeLorean’s first and only car to date.
Instead, the DeLorean EVolved is said to be designed with a modern standard of luxury in mind.
So, it’s likely going to be another all-electric sporty SUV. Although, DeLorean did tease keeping those majestic gull-wing doors from the DMC-12 in the EVolved trailer.
Given this is a DeLorean too, we can only imagine the EVolved will come with an unpainted stainless-steel finish.
Hopefully, it is also a little faster than the underwhelmingly slow DMC-12.
DeLorean has avoided giving away any technical details about the EVolved. Let’s not forget this is not the first time the brand has teased us with comebacks that never eventuated beyond concepts.
But Italdesign, the company that helped develop the shape and look of the DMC-12, recently inked a partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering. Together, they are creating a high-performance EV platform for select manufacturers.
Now, we all know what you are thinking. Who cares if the EVolved has gull-wing doors or hits dealerships with no paint, but does it have a Flux Capacitor?
We certainly hope so. But only time, quite literally, can answer that question.
