A cargo ship carrying Porsches, Audis and Lamborghinis is on fire in the Atlantic Ocean.
The Felicity Ace is stranded in the North Atlantic as it battles a rapidly growing fire. All 22 crew were forced to escape and were rescued by the Portuguese navy.
Onboard is a sports car enthusiast’s dream, with several top-end Volkswagen Group cars, including Lamborghinis and Bugattis, on their way from Germany to the US.
The fire reportedly broke out in the cargo hold and has since spread across most of the 200-metre ship.
Volkswagen offered a brief statement about the incident but refused to comment on what the fire means for those awaiting their new cars. However, Porsche has already reached out to their customers and have discussed potential replacements.
The ship was scheduled to arrive in Rhode Island next week.
Nothing been said about how many cars are on board, but, at full capacity, the Felicity Ace can transport nearly 4000 vehicles.
The ship’s operator said he is not sure what damage the fire has caused to the cargo. It is currently drifting crewless in the Ocean at about three knots.
A tow has reportedly been arranged.
