The next-generation Ford Mustang will come with carry-over engines at launch, meaning an unchanged 5.0-litre Coyote V8 will headline the act.
The news comes via Ford Authority, who says Ford isn’t set to change the engine line-up of their next-gen Mustang.
Ford is expected to launch the new Mustang with the Coyote V8 and the 2.3-litre in-line four EcoBoost. Power output and performance specs are believed to be unchanged.
Speaking with Australian media last month, Ford says the “V8 is what buyers want,” emphasising their desire to keep the popular powertrain alive.
Ultimately, it means the new Mustang is not expected to launch with a hybrid motor. Instead, this may come later.
Ford is apparently forecasting an eight-year run with the seventh-generation Mustang, so it makes sense that we will see some degree of hybridisation.
Roughly 100,000 ‘stangs are expected to be made annually once the model enters production.
Appearance-wise, the next-gen Mustang won’t be a revolutionary design but rather an advancement on the current model. Several spy images are circulating the internet, so we probably won’t be having our jaws drop at the official reveal.
As for the current-spec Mustang, production is suspended amid a shortage in computer chips. It’s a problem that has rocked the car world in the last few months, not helped by international conflicts and an unstable market.
