BYD set a new sales record last month, quadrupling the volume they sold in 2021.
The manufacturer sold a mammoth 105,475 vehicles last month, all of which are either EVs or Hybrids. Not a single standard combustion engine car was sold.
It was only at the end of March when BYD decided to ditch selling non-hybrid petrol and diesel cars, a move the company described as a “world first.”
That’s not entirely true, but most of the world’s big carmakers are giving themselves until the rest of the decade to make such a commitment.
BYD is bound for New Zealand shores soon, potentially later this year. However, the company’s right-hand-drive manufacturing has been experiencing delays, keeping eager Kiwis waiting patiently.
New Zealand’s first BYD model is believed to be the Yuan Plus – a compact SUV with one electric motor and 430 km of range.
