Mercedes has essentially run dry of electric vehicles.
The German manufacturer said overnight supply chain issues have meant they are sold out of all EVs until further notice.
Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius said demand for EVs is heavily outmatching supply.
It’s not a problem just facing Mercedes. In fact, several automakers are battling strained supply chains, forcing some like Ford to suspend taking orders for EVs.
However, Mercedes is still pushing ahead with its EV development, confirming at the same press conference they are in “full development of a fully dedicated electric architecture for AMG.”
There were no more details about what an AMG EV platform could look like. Instead, we learned a concept car will be revealed next week, while a production model will be launched in 2025.
“Next week, we will show what we think the electric performance world will look like when it’s made by AMG,” Källenius said.
From 2025, Mercedes expects to only be developing EV platforms, meaning consumers will have EV options for all future models.
To do so, Mercedes forecasts investing upwards of $66 million NZ on EVs between now and 2030.
