It sounds like another awesome Top Gear stunt, but Nissan is attempting to drive the 17,000-mile journey in, of all things, an Ariya EV.
British adventurer Chris Ramsey will pilot the Ariya, starting at the top of the earth and attempting to drive all the way to the very bottom.
If the feat is achieved, Ramsey and the Ariya will be the first man and machine to successfully drive between the earth’s two magnetic poles.
The Ariya, which isn’t actually available on the market right now because of supply issues, only has roughly 480 km of range.
However, the renders Nissan published of the journey car do show it having beefed up, off-road tyres. Plus, it’s expected to come with e-4ORCE technology that utilizes all-wheel-drive technology.
“Our mission is to show that electric vehicles can tackle the harshest of environments,” Ramsey said.
“From the bitter cold of the poles to the hot and humid jungles of South America, we want to illustrate that they are exhilarating to drive whilst meeting the daily demands of drivers around the world.”
Nissan doesn’t actually say how they will recharge the Ariya along the journey, especially in environments where finding a recharging station isn’t exactly an option.
Nor do they say when the journey will start.
Cool concept, but we’ll have to see it to believe it.
