On Thursday, it was announced that Auckland Transport (AT) has approved speed limit changes for more than 1600 roads.
The changes come as part of AT’s Safe Speeds Programme which was up for consultation between February and April 2022. More than 8000 submissions were made.
Most of the speed limit changes will be around schools on approximately 980 roads surrounding more than 70 schools.
Other changes will be around rural marae, high-risk rural roads, town centres including Takapuna, Devonport and Glen Innes, and residential roads around Manurewa. There will also be a review for the entire island of Waiheke.
A full list of roads affected by the speed limit changes can be found here.
The speed limit changes will come into effect between December 2022 and March 2023.
AT’s Executive General Manager of Safety, Stacey van der Putten, says the purpose of safe speed limits is to save lives and prevent serious injuries.
