Audi has confirmed that it won’t be putting four-cylinder engines in any of its RS models in future but it will be electrifying the performance line-up.
As carmakers increase their focus on electric vehicles, we are beginning to see the number of high-powered internal combustion engine vehicles drop.
However, the German brand isn’t quite letting go of its V6 and V8 models just yet. Audi is opting to boost their power with hybrid systems instead of lowering the cylinder count.
“Of course we will also electrify our cars,” said Constantin Dressler, head of product marketing at Audi Sport, during a media event in Spain on Wednesday, reports CNET.
“But we won’t do four-cylinder” he added.
It’s possible this could be a strategic announcement as it was just last week when rival brand Mercedes-AMG revealed its four-cylinder C 63. The company ditched the V8 for an IL4 with an electric turbo, plus a rear motor.
So then, it seems the likes of the 441kW V8 found in the RS6 will be sticking around for a little bit longer, albeit with an electrified boost.
