The average price of diesel has now risen to three cents per litre more than 91 octane petrol at Gull stations.
This is the second time the price of diesel has overtaken petrol in a matter of months which is only set to get higher amid a worldwide shortage of the fuel.
Russia’s ongoing war with Ukraine has seen gas supply cut short as the rest of Europe amps up demand going into winter.
Considering diesel is used as a substitute for gas, more and more is being used for electricity production.
In an interview with AM, Gull’s general manager Dave Bodger said prices could get worse as a result of Europe’s increased demand.
He also warned the return of tourism could also add to the issue with regard to jet fuel which is closely related to diesel in the refining process. As more jet fuel is needed to ferry passengers around, it comes at the cost of diesel production, further pushing its price up.
