VIA advises that the Clean Car Standard (CCS) is scheduled to be effective from 1 January 2023.
The Regulation for the CCS has not yet been published.
VIA is working with NZTA and MoT officials on the implementation of the CCS, including GST & Anti-Money-Laundering implications.
Importers will need to open a CO2 account with NZTA as soon as possible after 1 November 2022.
NZTA is developing training manuals and videos to assist industry.
VIA has asked the Minister and officials for the implementation of the CCS to be deferred. The CCS is the second stage of the overall “Clean Car Programme”.
Stage 1, the Clean Car Discount (CCD), was implemented from July 2021.
All vehicles, new and used, will be subject to both:
- The Clean Car Standard at the time of import and compliance and,
- The Clean Car Discount at the time of retail sale and registration.
