Yamaha has updated its XMAX range of maxiscooters for 2023 with a futuristic new design and an X-shaped LED headlight. There’s now also smartphone connectivity and improved ergonomics.
First launched in 2006, the Yamaha XMAX and TMAX have become two of the world’s most popular scooters, with over 720,000 units sold in the 16 years since.
For 2023, the XMAX arrives with added connectivity, improved riding comfort and enhanced functionality.
The XMAX range features a sharp new look, the highlight being an aggressive new ‘X’ shaped nose and lighting arrangement.
The ‘X’ theme continues at the rear with an X-shape evident when the tail light is on. There are also reshaped 3D boomering side covers, and a more angular and trimmed fairing to offer improved weather protection and extra stability. High-mount LED front flashers are easier to see in heavy traffic situations. A reshaped seat is said to be more comfortable and makes it easier to touch the ground with both feet.
The range topping Tech variant comes with smartphone connectivity and Garmin-compatible navigation relayed through a new 4.2-inch TFT dashboard. A 3.2-inch LCD speedometer is separate from the TFT display. The Tech model also adds a leather-like seat cover and aluminium footplates. Some plastic body parts on the Tech MAX have been treated with a gloss finish.
The Standard model features a 4.3-inch LCD screen with smartphone connectivity. Both variants have keyless ignition and TC.
Powering the XMAX 300 is a 299cc Euro4 ready single cylinder engine good for 21kW and 29Nm. Overall wet weight is 180kg. Motorcycle-like forks with 110mm of travel, twin rear shocks and a 15-inch front wheel and 14-inch rear make this all-roads ready. Under the seat there’s said to be room for two full face helmets.
With Yamaha’s MyRide app downloaded, a smartphone can be linked to the scooter via Bluetooth. Incoming calls and texts are seen on the instruments. The MyRide app also informs on riding data and the like.
The new scooters should arrive in the first third of 2023.
