ANCAP has confirmed that the new Nissan X-Trail has earned a five star safety rating after being put through a suite of tests.
The SUV scored highly in the adult occupant protection category by achieving 91 per cent. Helping it do so is the vehicle’s high-strength steel body that absorbs impacts before force is exuded into the passenger compartment.
In the child occupant protection category, the new X-Trail scored 90 per cent overall. The crash test assessment for child occupants aged six and ten-years-old saw the model achieve 23.3 points out of a possible 24.
There were also high scores in the vulnerable road users category which tested the new X-Trail’s ability to identify and alert drivers to pedestrians and other road-users. An overall score of 74 per cent was achieved.
Last but not least, the SUV managed a 97 per cent rating in the safety assist category which tests a vehicle’s ability to help drivers avoid collisions.
The autonomous emergency brake (AEB) makes up part of the X-Trail’s safety assist features technologies which identifies when the car in front is braking and will start to brake the vehicle.
Euro NCAP also awarded the new X-Trail with a five star rating alongside the all-electric Ariya SUV.
“The outstanding performances of both the new X-Trail and the Ariya, which are very different vehicles, built on different platforms, demonstrates the cross-car strategy Nissan has for its models,” said David Moss, Senior Vice President, Regional Research & Development, AMIEO.
