The Motor Industry Association (MIA) has indicated that new vehicle registrations for the month of November are down approximately 4.3 per cent compared with November last year.
There were 15,621 registrations of new vehicles in November 2022, which means the market year to date is 0.2 per cent down on the first eleven months of 2021.
Registrations of 11,175 cars and SUVs were down on the same month last year by 0.3 per cent, but are ahead of the 2021 year to date figure by 3.2 per cent.
Commercial vehicle registrations were down by 13 per cent on November last year. The same can be said for the year to date figure with truck sales down by 7.4 per cent on the first eleven months of 2021.
The top selling model for the month was the Tesla Model Y with 1099 units registered, followed by the Mitsubishi Outlander and the Toyota RAV4 which both retain their respective positions from the month prior.
With the Clean Car Standard now starting to come into effect, more and more electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybirds (PHEV), and hybrids are making their way onto our roads.
It was another win for the Model Y as it was crowned the best selling electric vehicle in November 2022, followed by the BYD Atto 3, and the Tesla Model 3.
Plug-in hybrid sales were strong too with 542 units registered for the month, led by the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross. The Outlander and MG HS made up the top three PHEVs sold in November.
In terms of hybrids, the RAV4 was the best seller while the Honda Jazz came in second and the Toyota Corolla Cross in third.
The SUV medium segment continues to dominate new car registrations in New Zealand with 28 per cent market share. Compact SUVs follow closely behind with 19 per cent while utes and four-wheel drives with 16 per cent share.
