The Subaru Solterra has earned itself a five-star safety rating from the European New Car Assessment Programme (Euro NCAP) after undergoing a series of safety tests.
In the Adult Occupant Protection, Child Occupant Protection, Vulnerable Road Users Protection and Safety Assist categories, the fully electric Solterra scored above the minimum threshold required.
A maximum score was awarded for the SUV’s ability to protect 6 and 10-year-old child occupants in a frontal and lateral impact.
The Solterra owes its newly awarded safety status to the jointly developed electric platform created by both Subaru and Toyota.
Also adding to its five-star claim is the high score achieved in the Safety Assist category, courtesy of its car-to-car autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system. It also scored highly in the AEB detection for cyclists and pedestrians.
Subaru New Zealand’s Wallis Dumper celebrates the five-star rating but claims he isn’t surprised by it.
“Our all-new electric SUV, the Solterra follows in the tyre prints of the Subaru Outback which was awarded the maximum five-star safety rating from independent Australasian vehicle safety authority ANCAP, achieving record scores in 2021,” he said.
The Subaru Solterra will arrive in New Zealand in 2023 with further details on the model expected closer to its launch.
