The KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is one of the ultimate adventure bikes. For 2023 the Austrian company has added several refinements that benefit practical adventuring, along with a new look.
There are two new colours, the classic KTM orange-and-black trim or a graded gray appearance. The orange extends to the forged aluminum subframe, and there’s now a lower seat height as a result (849-869mm). The gray hue spreads across the bodywork which houses the 23L three-part fuel tank.
A revised chrome-molybdenum trellis frame features a steering head that’s been located 15mm rearward compared with the previous version. This shortens the frame and is said to improve cornering agility while a 15mm longer swingarm enhances overall stability. The front engine mount was also moved forward slightly to help keep the nose down under hard acceleration. Its sidestand was redesigned for improved functionality.
Roaming near and far on the 2023 KTM 1290 Super Adventure S is easier now by virtue of augmented navigation software, relayed to the seven-inch TFT display. The rider retains control over the engine modes, WP Semi-Active Suspension, ABS settings and Adaptive Cruise Control. Tyres are by Mitas, Terra Force-R, a dual purpose design aimed at improved grip, handling and high-speed stability.
For 2023 KTM aimed for more utility. There’s more control now for navigation plotting. The KTMConnect App enables Turn-by-Turn+ guidance and waypoints markers on the go, while enhancing ease of selecting audio tracks and listening to ‘Favorites’ or making phone calls. Hands on the grips means a safer and more enjoyable interaction with the machine.
Its Euro5-ready 1301cc V-Twin LC8 produces 160hp (119kW) and 138Nm of torque, so is ready for all eventualities. Diamond-like carbon and a Grafal finish contribute to reduced engine friction. The central processing unit looks after suspension configuration and reaction, ride height, ABS, Ride Modes, TPM, and anti-dive, amongst other things.
Standard kit includes LED lights, cornering ABS and TC, a re-engineered windscreen and adjuster, multi-part saddle, reconfigured aluminum side stand and optional electronic packs that include a Quickshifter+ and WP Suspension Pro (offers automatic suspension settings).
Other accessories include extra protective parts, aesthetic touches through detailing, performance enhancements or travel items like luggage, racks and bags.
First examples of the updated model are expected here in late February, 2023.
