Harley-Davidson’s Breakout returns for 2023 with a new look, better ergos, and bigger 117ci (1923cc) engine. It’s one of many new models released as part of the firm’s celebrations marking 120 years in the business of building motorcycles.
After being discontinued in 2020, Breakout returns for 2023 with new styling, added comfort, and extra performance.
It’s out with the 114ci V-twin and in with the Milwaukee-Eight 117 mill. This offers the most torque of any engine from the regular production H-D range. And that would be 167Nm of twist produced at 3500rpm, along with 75kW of power at 4750rpm.
Kerb weight is a stated 310kg and lean angles both sides are quoted at 26.8 degrees. It runs with a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-incher on the rear. The seat height is a low 650mm.
Styling remains low slung but it’s freshened with new wheels (26-spoke cast aluminium with black finish and machined highlights), extra chrome detailing, and an 18.9 litre fuel tank with a chrome instrument nacelle on top. The former tank held only 13.2 litres so the range improves significantly to over 350km. Claimed mean fuel use is 5L/100km.
Ergonomics are also said to be better, with polished stainless steel handlebar risers lifting the chromed bars by 19mm for a more comfortable riding position. There’s also more silverware than before, with chrome plating for the side covers, muffler shields, turn signals, mirrors and intake manifold.
New items for Breakout include traction control and cruise control.
Available from $NZ40,750, it comes in two shades of black, grey or orange, with special colours adding $450.
