The Polestar 2 has been given a major update for the 2024 model, with features like refreshed styling, increased performance, quicker charging, longer range batteries, and a rear-wheel drive variant now making an appearance.
First up, the model has inherited key design cues from its larger Polestar 3 sibling with the brand’s ‘SmartZone’ now featuring up front, which hosts the vehicle’s front camera and mid-range radar.
The updated Polestar 2 will also be offered with 20-inch forged alloy wheels as part of the Performance Pack.
For the first time, the model will be offered with a single-motor variant which sends 220kW and 490Nm (up from 170kW and 330Nm) of torque to the rear wheels. That enables the car to hit 100km/h from a standstill in 6.2 seconds.
The dual-motor version now supplies most of its power to the ground via the rear-mounted motor while being supported by a new asynchronous motor up front which can disengage itself if not needed.
A total output of 310kW and 740Nm (increased from 300kW and 660Nm) is now available at the driver’s disposal in the dual-motor variant, enabling a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 4.5 seconds.
Those seeking more power can opt for the Performance Pack which brings the 0 to 100km/h time down to 4.2 seconds thanks to its uprated 350kW output.
The Polestar 2 has been upgraded with lithium-ion batteries which increases the long-range version’s battery capacity to 82kWh. As for the standard-range, it retains a capacity of 69kWh.
Faster charging rates are also now possible, with the long-range battery now capable of 205kW DC charging and 135kW for the standard-range.
As for range itself, the long-range dual-motor variant can travel up to 592km on a single charge, an increase of 105km.
The standard-range single motor version can now travel 40km further too, achieving a maximum range of up to 518km while the long-range single-motor variant can drive up to 635km.
Standard equipment on the Polestar 2 has also been revised to include driver awareness features like blind spot monitoring, cross traffic alert, rear collision warning, a 360-degree surround view camera, and automatic dimming wing mirrors. The wireless phone charger is now standard on all versions too.
Customers in New Zealand will be able to order the model year 2024 Polestar 2 in the second quarter of 2023.
First deliveries are expected in the third quarter of 2023.
