The Australian New Car Assessment Programme (ANCAP) has awarded the new GWM Ora and Alfa Romeo Tonale five star safety ratings alongside the Citroen C5 X.
Under the recent suite of tests, the Peugeot 308 and BMW i4 were also given four-star safety ratings after falling just short of the five star threshold.
Both the Tonale and Ora will arrive in Australia and New Zealand with the maximum safety-rating after this month after scoring highly in all four areas of assessment.
Good all round performance for the protection of adult and child occupants as well as vulnerable road users were awarded to the two along with their ability to actively avoid collisions through on-board safety systems.
The C5 X also scored the highest rating available of five stars, one star higher than it scored in Europe. This is thanks to the more advanced autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system fitted to the Australian market model.
While the 308 also received improved standard safety equipment compared to its European counterpart, it just fell short in the adult occupant protection assessment which meant it took home four stars.
The same four star rating was applied to the i4 as well even though its AEB and lane support systems on the Australian and New Zealand models are of a higher standard than those in Europe. It fell short of five stars as BMW did not put the vehicle forward to ANCAP for verification testing to confirm performance of these systems.
