Toyota and ExxonMobil have teamed up to develop a more eco-friendly fuel that creates significantly less greenhouse emissions than current fuels on offer.
The new fuel formula is predicted to reduce emissions by as much as 75 per cent and can be used in any vehicle with an internal combustion engine, new or old.
This claim has already been proven too as the Japanese carmaker has begun testing the fuel, confirming that it is compatible with today’s vehicles and existing fueling infrastructure.
Neither company went into detail as to why the fuel has a lower carbon footprint but Motor1 reports that the gasoline blend has been developed with a mix of feedstocks, including biomass and ethanol. These are then refined using a less impactful process on the environment.
Both Toyota and ExxonMobil believe that multiple powertrain solutions are the way to go for the future of road transportation and now relies on policymakers to support their eco fuel initiative.
Toyota says its developing a “portfolio of powertrains” including hybrids, plug-in hybrids, fully electric, and fuel-cell electric vehicles and has signaled in the past that it wants to give its consumers a choice when it comes to how they get around.
