After waiting for the better part of a year, we can now confirm that the GWM Tank 300 has gone on sale in New Zealand.
Pricing and specification have been released for the model on the local GWM website, showing that it will be offered in two electrified variants, the Lux Hybrid and Ultra Hybrid.
They both feature a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine combined with an electric motor to make 258kW and 615Nm of torque all up, with power being sent through a 9-speed automatic transmission.
With regard to specification, the line-up starts with the Tank 300 Lux Hybrid which is priced from $56,990 before on-road costs. Some of its standard appointments comprise 17-inch alloy wheels, a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, and a 360-degree camera system.
The Tank 300 Ultra Hybrid builds on the entry-level model’s appointments with bigger 18-inch wheels, Nappa leather accented seats, an eight-way power adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, a nine-speaker sound system, and a locking front differential, among other additions. Pricing for the highest-spec model comes in at $61,990 with ORCs extra.
Even though they’re both hybrids, they are slapped with a Clean Car Programme fee of $4485.
Standard safety and driver assistance systems on both variants include adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, as well as rear cross traffic alert.
The four-wheel drive hybrid had been under deliberation since we drove it in Australia at the start of 2023, with the Chinese carmaker unsure as to whether the model was well suited for Kiwis.
Across the ditch, the hybrid model has been on sale for most of this year and will be joined by a cheaper petrol-only variant. However, we understand that New Zealand will just be getting the hybrid at this time.
