Chinese manufacturer MG now has a range-topping, dual-motor MG4 called the XPower, and it could be coming to New Zealand.
Underneath its skin is an all-wheel drive system that puts down 320kW and 600Nm of torque to the road below. That’s more than twice the power of the Long Range model and sufficient for a 0 to 100km/h launch controlled time of 3.8 seconds, while its top speed is said to be limited to 200km/h.
A new Dynamic Cornering Control System features a locking electronic differential and Intelligent Motor Control, meaning torque vectoring on both axles for best traction and cornering composure. Suspension has been stiffended by 25 per cent which should help, as will sharper steering.
Brakes are also uprated, with larger ventilated 345mm rotors all round. A 100 to 0km/h stopping distance of 33.9 metres is claimed. Recalibrated regenerative braking allows for one-pedal driving.
To keep costs in check, the hot hatch utilises the same 62kWh (usable) battery capacity as the MG4 Long Range model, a single charge good for around 385km.
Updated 18-inch wheels distinguish the top MG4 model, while a set of Alcantara-clad bucket seats has been fitted inside. Driving modes include a new ‘Track’ setting.
It’s being considered for release in Australia so if it gets the go ahead will likely come here too, fronting up against the likes of Tesla Model 3 Performance. Based on overseas pricing, the MG4 XPower will likely sell for around $75k.
