Toyota New Zealand has today announced pricing and specifications for its first electric vehicle, the bZ4X, which is set to arrive in the country in early 2024.
The SUV will be offered to Kiwi customers in two trim levels, ‘Pure’ and ‘Motion’, both of which ride on the carmaker’s e-TNGA platform and are powered by a 71.4kWh battery.
Starting with the Pure, the entry-level model is priced at $72,990 and features a single electric motor that sends 150kW to the front wheels.
As for the Motion, pricing comes to $82,990 and grants you an additional e-motor at the rear for a combined system output of 160kW. Power is sent to all four wheels, split evenly between the front and back.
Both variants are capable of wading through water at depths of up to 177mm, as well as being able to tow 750kg unbraked.
With regard to the exterior, the Pure rides on a set of 18-inch alloy wheels with a silver and black resin cover, while the Motion gets larger 20-inch black and machined alloys. The latter also receives a panoramic roof and a larger split rear spoiler.
No matter which variant you opt for, Toyota says that both feature interiors with bespoke designs and plush materials, with the Pure getting a fabric and synthetic leather upholstery combination, while the Motion gets a choice of black or grey synthetic leather.
In terms of safety features, the bZ4X comes with the Toyota Safety Sense package which includes Intersection Collision Avoidance Support and Emergency Steering Assist as standard. Step up into the Motion and you’ll receive a Panoramic View Monitor and Blind Spot Monitor with safe exit assist.
Pricing for the first Toyota EV to be sold in New Zealand includes all on-road costs and comes with the brand’s fixed price servicing package, floor mats, a three-year or 100,000km warranty, and a five-year or 160,000km 70 per cent degradation warranty on the battery.
If you aren’t already aware, the bZ4X is based on the same platform as the Subaru Solterra which also just had its pricing and specifications announced.
Two variants of the model are available for Kiwi customers to choose from, including the standard ‘Solterra’ and ‘Solterra Touring’, priced at $79,990 and $84,990 respectively.
A two-tone exterior finish option is also available on the Touring for an additional $1000.
