The future owner of this luxury home in Manawatū will get a little more than they bargained for upon purchasing the property, as a classic 1964 Mercedes-Benz 230 SL will also be included in the sale.
Located a stone’s throw away from Feilding, the 110-year-old four-bedroom house called ‘Greenlea’ is one of the most historic in the region and is said to be a once-in-a-lifetime purchase made better by a very special car.
The current owners, husband and wife Spencer and Margaret Morris have decided to sell up after living and meticulously maintaining the property for over two decades. The only reason they wanted to throw the Mercedes in was because “it feels right”.
Spencer is a keen car collector and says his 230 SL will have the future homeowner feeling like a ’60s movie star as they drive up to the house.
“It is the model made famous in the Audrey Hepburn film, Two for the Road,” he says.
“The new owners can enjoy driving into Greenlea on a warm summer’s day while listening to the tranquil birdsong from their classic convertible coupe.”
The 230 SL (W113) debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1963 as the successor to the 190 SL (W121) and the iconic 300 SL (W198).
As alluded to by its name, the model is fitted with a fuel-injected 2.3-litre inline six-cylinder engine, and in the case of the ‘Greenlea’ car, it’s mated to a four-speed automatic transmission.
It’s also the same model that features Mercedes’ famed ‘Pagoda’ roof which was aptly named because of its subtle concave shape.
