The calendar has just rolled over to 2024 and with it comes the first big car show of the year – the Tokyo Auto Salon – and it’s there that Subaru plans to reveal a limited edition version of the WRX STI.
The Japanese manufacturer is staying tight-lipped about the new variant, dubbed the S4 STI Sport Prototype, but it did however show us a small teaser of the car’s rear end.
Although the single image of the sports sedan leaves much to the imagination, it doesn’t look as if much has been altered visually as it appears to feature the same lip spoiler as the WRX STI Sport R EX model it’s based on.
However, Subaru says the new model will feature “enhanced stable handling and premium drive feel”, which likely means the suspension setup has been fettled with somewhat.
We understand that the special edition model will only be sold in Japan in limited numbers.
Also on display at Subaru’s stand is a hotted-up BRZ STI coupe and Levorg STI wagon, as well as a handful of race cars including the BRZ GT300, this year’s WRX NBR Challenge car, and the 2023 Super Taikyu Series BRZ.
With that being said, it’s time to mark your calendars as all will be revealed at this year’s Tokyo Auto Salon which runs from January 12 to 14, 2024.
