Husqvarna Motorcycles has released information on the renewal of its Vitpilen and Svartpilen models. Introduced in 2018, the Vitpilen 401 and Svartpilen 401 have been completely redesigned, featuring new engines, a fresh chassis, updated technology, and a different look. The aim remains the same, however, consistent fun and a memorable and dynamic riding experience. These updates follow on from the recent renewal of the KTM 390 Duke, upon which these bikes are based.
An all-new more rigid steel trellis frame preserves the agility of the Vitpilen and Svartpilen models while increasing feel without influencing ride quality. There’s also a lightweight aluminium swingarm and adjustable WP suspension.
The new machines also feature a longer wheelbase (1368mm) and a revised seat height, improving their cornering behaviour while also enhancing stability. The Vitpilen models further benefit from new handlebars that offer improved leverage for more responsive steering.
Powering the 2024 range is a new and more compact engine from the KTM LC4c family, Euro 5+-compliant, and also offering improved weight distribution. The single displaces 399cc, and produces 34kW (45bhp). There’s a new counterbalance shaft and plasma coating for the cylinder. The head has been revised while there’s more torque lower in the rev range. That’s in part thanks to new camshafts that enhance valve lift while there’s a new larger airbox. The rear suspension has to be offset because of this but that also means a lower 820mm seat height. The gearbox is also updated.
The pair also share key technology, including cornering traction control, switchable ride modes, adjustable WP suspension (both compression and rebound can be changed up front), ByBre brakes and Bosch cornering-sensitive ABS that delivers controlled retardation. The rear monoshock is adjustable for preload and rebound.
Easy Shift (Quickshifter) technology means clutchless gear changes while a five-inch bonded glass TFT display, premium paint finish with decals, and 17-inch wheels complete the prime elements of the Vitpilen and Svartpilen models.
Other features include an LED headlight with positioning light ring, connectivity as standard, and spoked 17-inch wheels with Pirelli Scorpion Rally STR tyres (Svartpilen 401) while the Vitpilen has cast aluminium 17-inch wheels shod with Michelin Power 6 rubber.
Accessories and street apparel are also available. These models should hit NZ shores around midyear.
