Following our M2 update story from a month ago, BMW can now name a price for its update M2 Coupe. Critically, for those who care, there’s still a six-speed manual that will be available here. Both this and the eight-speed auto variant will cost $146,500. Expect their arrival later this year.
We’re not quite sure why this update came so soon, given we only tested the new model in December last year. Still, those who held off buying will be happy, except that the price is now $4500 more.
The very latest M2 Coupé outputs 353kW, up from 338kW originally, while torque rises from 550 to 600Nm. This, along with sharper throttle response, means faster acceleration times (0-100 in four seconds flat for the auto, 4.2sec for the manual). That’s a 0.1sec improvement for both versions.
The added output is more apparent over the 0-200km/h test, each version 0.6sec faster. The auto takes 12.9 seconds and the manual does it in 13.7sec.
Changes to the powertrain are complemented by equipment and technology enhancements. There are four new exterior colours too, including yellow, red and blue versions. Okay, there’s another grey one as well. Also new is an optional light-alloy wheel design, a double-spoke offering finished in silver.
BMW has also revised the cockpit slightly. Inside is a new M leather steering wheel with a flat-bottomed rim, modified spokes and a red centre marker at the very top. An Alcantara trimmed wheel is a $1000 option. Ouch.
The standard vernasca leather upholstery is now available as a red/black bi-colour variant. Lightweight M Carbon bucket seats can be specified as an option too, although these are, as expected, pricey at $5000 apiece.
Other updates include BMW’s latest iDrive 8.5 OS, and a redesigned instrument panel to enhance usability. Air vent grilles are also said to be easier to use.
Standard features include ACC, Adaptive LED headlights, comfort access, a H/K surround sound system, M rear spoiler and powered and heated sports seats. There’s also self-parking, TPM and a Qi charger.
