Ineos Automotive now provides the rides for the New Zealand Search and Rescue Avalanche Dogs (SARDA). Grenadiers are used across the country’s major South Island ski areas, partaking in emergency search and rescue operations.
The 4X4s are being fitted with secure kennels along with a WiFi communications hub.
Justin Hocevar, Head of Region, Asia Pacific INEOS Automotive, commented “The Grenadier has undergone extensive testing in some of the world’s toughest environments, so it’s the ideal support vehicle for such challenging terrain.
“SARDA performs a vital role in exceptional circumstances. We are very proud to be providing this support for its lifesaving operations this winter season, and beyond.”
Ineos Automotive is providing two Grenadier 4X4s for operational use at key locations. These will optimise emergency responses and will play an integral role in the search and rescue operations. One vehicle will be based in the Christchurch-Canterbury area and another across the Southern Lakes.
The backbone of the Grenadier is a full box-section ladder frame chassis, with heavy-duty solid beam axles. It also has a two-speed transfer case and up to three locking differentials. So Grenadier is purpose built for use on difficult terrains.
The 4X4s are customised for SARDA’s purposes, ensuring team members maintain a reliable line of communication with all other emergency rescue crews at all times.
Karyn Robertson, National Coordinator of SARDA NZ, commented: “Having the Grenadiers will make a huge difference to our rescue operations. In the event of an avalanche, the vehicle can deploy handlers and dogs quickly and safely to help sweep the area. With numerous unsealed roads and various terrains, robust 4X4 vehicles like the Grenadier are the best and safest choice.”
