The F1 action in the lead up to the Italian Grand Prix in Monza for once hasn’t involved any of the usual suspects.
This time it was the safety car, an Aston Martin Vantage. For some reason the driver lost control at speed and smacked into a tyre barrier.
Both occupants emerged unscathed, and walked away from the scary incident. The cause of the crash is unclear but at the end of the straight before the corner the car seemed unstable under brakes. And before the driver could react it had already turned itself around and was out of control. Full braking prevented the crash from being much worse.
The crash occurred during testing in the lead up to Sunday’s race.
There’s much speculation about what caused the incident, with some suggesting mechanical failure. Some thought the brakes could have overheated and the driver initiated the spin to slow the car that way.
The FIA said that Aston Martin is investigating the cause. There is an additional Safety Car at the circuit so this will not impact the weekend’s event…unless of course this one crashes as well.
Drama with safety cars sometimes happens which is the nature of things moving quickly and stuff then happening.
