Two months ago we reported that the high-performance Lexus LBX Morizo RR would be available in New Zealand from Q1 next year. However, pricing was not specified at the time.
Now we can tell you that it will go on sale for $89,900 plus ORCs. Pricing includes a four-year unlimited kilometre new vehicle warranty and service plan, along with four years of AA Roadside Assistance.
The LBX Morizo RR takes its name from Akio Toyoda, Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation. When Toyoda takes to the race track, his nickname is Morizo. Because he played such a big hand in developing the car, it is named after him. The RR refers to Rookie Racing. Evidently the LBX Morizo RR is what Akio likes to drive on the weekend.
A turbocharged 1.6 litre inline three-cylinder engine powers the vehicle and the transmission is an eight-speed auto. It outputs 206kW and 390Nm. Power arrives at all four wheels through an electronically controlled system. It optimises torque distribution between the front and rear wheels based on driving conditions. Front and rear Torsen limited slip differentials further enhance the AWD system’s performance.
Key elements enhancing performance, include a shored-up body, suspension, brakes and tyres. Lexus Pathfinder Air Racing helped tweak the aerodynamics of the vehicle.
Toyoda says “The LBX Morizo RR is kind of a casual luxury, the car is as comfortable as my sneakers.
“People think that big is luxury and small is economical. But that is not true. To me smaller cars are more fun to drive. The 1.6L inline-three intercooled turbo engine delivers exhilarating torque and power. Fun to drive is not just about driving, it is the sound, the smell, all the ingredients.”
Lexus New Zealand Vice President Andrew Davis says that Lexus has always been committed to crafting vehicles filled with excitement and exceptional performance, coupled with distinctive Lexus refinement.
Davis says that the Lexus attention to imaginative technology included having some fun in developing the engine and exhaust sound, which responds to the driver’s operation and adds a greater sense of excitement.
Inside, the LBX Morizo RR features Semi-Aniline Leather and Ultrasuede sports seats, aluminium sports pedals, a 13-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system, a 12.3-inch digital meter, head-up display, and a 9.8-inch touchscreen display.
“I look forward to our customers feeling the joy and thrill of driving the LBX Morizo RR” he added.
Lexus has sold over 165 examples of its hybrid LBX since its launch in April this year.
