MG Motor Australia and New Zealand introduced the MG Cyberster, a 375kW all-wheel-drive electric roadster, at a launch event in Sydney yesterday. The Cyberster, featuring scissor doors, will carry a sticker price of $129,000 plus on-road costs when it arrives in New Zealand. In a preview earlier in the year MG said the Cyberster would be available locally before year end. Orders are being taken now here.
Carl Gotha, head of MG’s design studio in London, attended the event to share details about the design of this new model.
The Cyberster will be available in five colours: English White Standard, Sterling Silver Metallic, Camden Grey Metallic, Diamond Red Metallic, and Royal Yellow Premium. Buyers can also choose between Black or Red for the hood.
MG says the Cyberster can shoot from 0 to 100km/h in 3.2 seconds, with a range of up to 443km (WLTP). Charging from 10 per cent to 80 per cent takes about 40 minutes using a 150kW CCS public charger.
The Cyberster is powered by a 77kWh battery positioned between the axles, with electric motors at both ends providing all-wheel drive. Despite its size (4535mm long and 1913mm wide), it maintains the classic roadster look with a long bonnet and a short boot, similar to the MGB models from the 1960s and 1970s.

The scissor doors are designed to improve access to the cabin, especially with the wide sills and wheel arches. The electric doors can be controlled by the key fob, a button on the door, or from inside the car.
Inside, the Cyberster features a triple-screen set-up for the driver, with a 10.25-inch central display showing essential info like speed, range, and navigation. Two seven-inch touchscreens are found on either side of the central display. Some functions are also accessible via the steering wheel, which has additional buttons for easy access.
The Cyberster comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and an eight-speaker Bose sound system for in-car entertainment.
