The new Mini Cooper Convertible is returning to our shores in fourth-generation guise, the Cooper S variant launching in Q1, 2025.
The latest Mini Convertible features a fabric folding roof available in black or with a grey Union Jack. A fully automated soft top can act like a sunroof with a 40cm opening to brighten up the cabin space or it retracts fully. It also works in either direction at speeds up to 30km/h. The roof folds away behind the headrests in 18sec (15sec in the opposite direction), leaving 160 litres of luggage space.
Otherwise, there’s 215 litres of space on hand. The tailgate opens downwards to facilitate loading. A wind deflector optimises airflow and reduces noise when the softtop is down. Integrated rollover protection systems are activated automatically in the event of a rollover.
Powering the Cooper S convertible is a 150kW/300Nm four cylinder 2L engine. It shunts the Convert to 100 in a claimed 6.9sec.
Exclusive to the MINI Cooper Convertible range is the “Sparkling Copper Grey” exterior paint finish. Up to 11 other paint options are available.
Special features include LED headlights, a sport steering wheel, central OLED system and toggle switch bar. Pricing starts at $64,990 for the Classic version, $68,990 for the better specified Flavoured (powered sports seats, HK premium sounds) and $70,990 for the JCW Sport Convertible.
Mini names its price for JCW hatch
Returning in renewed guise in Q2 next years is the Mini JCW, packing a 170kW/380Nm 2.0T engine developing 170kW and 380Nm. That should see the JCW hit 100 from standstill in 6.1sec, on the way to a top of 250km/h.
Pick the JCW by its octagonal front grille in high-gloss black, air inlets with vertical reflectors in red and horizontal LED headlights. A rear spoiler and central tailpipe distinguish the JCW from the rear. Red and black colour scheme inside is typical JCW, as are sports seats finished in vegan leather and knitted cord upholstery. There’s also a JCW sports steering wheel that has shift paddles attached.
The Classic model kicks things off at $65,990 and comes with adaptive cruise, adaptive suspension and a panoramic glass roof. Favoured costs $69,990 and adds performance tyres, powered seat adjustment and window tints.
