Peugeot’s new mid-sized 3008 Hybrid crossover has arrived in New Zealand and gone on sale.
Built on a new Stellantis platform, it features a coupe-like silhouette and has earned a Red Dot Award for product design.
Up front are pixel LED headlights while a floating rear spoiler aids aerodynamics. The three-claw rear light signature marks it out as a Peugeot.
Powering the 3008 Hybrid is a 1.2L triple and a 48V mild hybrid system (15.6kW motor, 0.89kWh NiMH battery) generating system power of 100kW and 230Nm. Drive is via a six-speed DCT to the front wheels. The WLTP combined fuel use figure is 5.4L/100km, with CO2 figure of 126g/km. Peugeot rates 0-100 acceleration at 10.2sec.
It says the powertrain operates in electric mode for up to half of city driving. We’d guess the downhill half given how small the battery is. Luggage capacity is good though, a claimed 588L with all seats in use and 1643L after split folding. That’s impressive for a vehicle that’s only 4542mm long, as is a 10.6m turning circle.
Inside is Peugeot’s i-Cockpit with a 21-inch panoramic frameless display. It combines a head-up digital instrument panel with a high-definition central touchscreen. There’s also a multifunction compact steering wheel that you peer over the top of instead of through, like with most vehicles. Configurable i-Toggles allow for 10 shortcuts to the functions of your choice.
Other key features include paddle shifters, three drive modes, adaptive cruise amongst the usual driver assist systems, LED ambient lighting in eight colours, a surround camera and Alcantara seat coverings for the GT. An electric tailgate is standard on GT spec only.
The RRP for the Allure model is $57,980 + ORC while the GT starts at $62,480 + ORCs. There are six colours on offer, all but the new Obsession Blue are a $750 upgrade. For the GT you can also option Nappa leather seat covers (includes massage function and ventilation/heating) for $4500 while a panoramic sunroof is a $2990 update. All Peugeots are covered by a five-year/100,000km warranty.
