The 2026 Toyota HiLux is testing, albeit heavily disguised, with a Thai publication sharing spy shots of the popular ute.
Reports last year suggested that the next HiLux would not be all new but would utilise its existing IMV platform. The new model, according to the Brazilian publication, would involve “substantial updates to the chassis and bodywork”.
The latest spy shots, published in HeadlightMag, seem to corroborate those claims. Despite the camouflage, it shows signs of a major facelift rather than an all-new design. Expect a new hood, bumper, grille and headlight assembly up front, while at the rear everything is new. However, the doors and cabin structure appear carryover.
The new Prado and 300 Series utilise Toyota’s new TNGA-F ladder-frame architecture, and it was thought that the HiLux would too. These shots suggest otherwise.

Engines will likely be carryover as well, HiLux retaining the 1GD 2.8-litre and 2GD 2.4-litre four-cylinder mills. However, engineering changes to improve emissions are probable.
Deliveries of new Hilux are now due in 2026, whereas earlier information suggested a launch in 2025.
Expect the global debut to take place in Thailand some time later this year.
