MG is set to launch its biggest vehicle yet, a three-row seven-seat SUV dubbed QS.
It is essentially the same as the second-generation MG RX9 that sells in the Middle East. That’s made by SAIC Motor brand Roewe and entered production in 2022.
The HS is also based on a Roewe but it features MG-specific front-end styling where the QS doesn’t.
The company recently filed trademark applications for a range of QS variants, differing mainly by powertrain and wheels driven (front or all).
Initial models coming down under will use a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine producing 153kW and 350Nm. It’s mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission. These figures are slightly less than those of the Roewe RX9 which makes 178kW/392Nm.

There’s a plug-in hybrid QS too, though no details are to hand because it’s not on sale anywhere as yet.
Dimensions are slightly larger than those of Highlander and Sorento, being 4983mm long, 1967mm wide and 1778mm tall. It rides on a wheelbase of 2915mm.
Braked towing capacity is a claimed 2000kg, with a choice of standard 20-inch or optional 21-inch alloy wheels.
The front driver weighs in at 1904kg, the AWD model adding 90kg. That’s similar to the Kia Sorento V6 for both models.

Underpinning the QS is McPherson strut front suspension and a multilink rear set-up.
While there are no interior shots available, the RX9 comes with a pair of 12.3-inch screens, and an optional one for the front passenger.
Expect adaptive cruise control, autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a surround-view camera.

Other features include heated and ventilated power-adjustable seats with memory, as well as a 12-speaker Bose sound system and a panoramic sunroof. These may be cost options, or standard on high-spec models, however.
Beige or black interiors are on offer overseas.
MG Motor New Zealand has no information currently on whether or not QS is destined for our shores.
