BYD New Zealand has added the official NZ Autocar Car of the Year award for 2024 to its trophy cabinet today, as the Shark 6 is recognised as the overall COTY winner.
The Shark 6’s 2024 trophy now sits alongside the 2022 award that the Atto 3 picked up as both the Best Value COTY as well as the overall NZ Autocar Car of the Year.

The BYD Shark 6 won the class award in the Ute segment and then, after a final day of back-to-back testing by a panel of five judges, was declared the overall Car of the Year.

Last year, NZ Autocar judged the BYD Seal as the Most Electrifying car released in 2023, while the BYD Dolphin won our Urban COTY award.
BYD NZ head, Warren Willmot, says the entire range of BYD models launched in New Zealand has now picked up at least one overall Car of the Year award from a New Zealand automotive outlet.

The Shark 6 was recently awarded a full five star safety rating from ANCAP, it being the first plug-in hybrid electric ute to undergo testing by the regime.
The new product momentum will continue this year with the arrival of the Sealion 5, a plug-in hybrid compact crossover SUV slotting in below the Sealion 6, and the Sealion 8, which is the seven-seater version of the recently arrived all-electric Sealion 7.
