Reports that Christchurch had secured a Supercars Championship event may have been premature, with both Supercars and ChristchurchNZ clarifying that no official decision has yet been made.
Yesterday, media reports, including an announcement by One News, indicated that Christchurch would host a second New Zealand Supercars race. However, both Supercars and local promotional agency ChristchurchNZ have since released statements confirming discussions are ongoing but not yet finalized.
Supercars officials reiterated that while there is significant interest from stakeholders in hosting another event in New Zealand, no final agreement has been reached. “The immediate focus remains on delivering a successful ITM Taupō Super 440 event this weekend,” the statement said.
ChristchurchNZ confirmed it has submitted a bid alongside the Canterbury Car Club to bring Supercars to the region, but clarified they are still awaiting official communication from Supercars regarding the final selection of venues.
“Along with the Canterbury Car Club, we hope for a positive outcome to be announced in the near future.,” ChristchurchNZ’s statement noted.
Both organizations emphasized that formal announcements would only occur once all details and agreements had been thoroughly evaluated and finalized, urging patience from fans and media.
