Subaru’s second electric SUV after Solterra suggests the Japanese brand is about to make a concerted push into the European market.
Expected to be a better size for families, the new electric SUV from Subaru will debut at the upcoming New York Auto Show imminently.Â
Known as Trailseeker, it will sell alongside the Solterra but is likely to be a more spacious and family-friendly model. So it will go up against the likes of Skoda Enyaq, Tesla Model Y and the Hyundai Ioniq 5.
So far, Subaru has only released a teaser shot of ‘Trailseeker Limited’ badging.
The new vehicle will be the brand’s second full EV. We imagine the ‘Limited’ refers to a trim line used on a more upmarket model.

This second EV is sure to be larger overall than Solterra (above) with a boxier body for added space and versatility. Expect Trailseeker’s styling to be more rugged, likely with uncoloured plastic cladding, skid plates and roof rails.Â
Underpinnings will probably be shared with Solterra which rides on the e-SGP (Subaru Global Platform) architecture. That is Subaru’s version of Toyota’s e-TGNA platform. Expect the option of one or two e-motors. In New Zealand, the latter is more likely, given Subaru prefers AWD where possible . Limited edition BRZs are the rear-drive exception.Â
Trailseeker follows closely behind the renewed Forester, the Strong Hybrid version of which dots down here midyear.

Alongside the Trailseeker on show, Subaru will also reveal a new Outback in New York. There’s a chance of an updated Solterra too, given Toyota recently refreshed its bZ4x. It will feature a stronger battery, better performance, enhanced range and a quicker charging time.
