Kiwis seem to love SUVs.
People who don’t often feel such a way mainly do because they’re everywhere and often not the prettiest things.
However, a select few Kiwis don’t fancy SUVs because of their effect on the climate, and they’re doing something about it.
The Tyre Extinguishers are UK-based climate change protestors whose callsign is deflating the tyres of SUVs.
And now Auckland is the latest target city of such vandalism.
Some Auckland SUV and Ute owners have been the unfortunate victims of finding one of their tyres deflated (not slashed) with an essay on the windscreen describing the impact their vehicle has on the climate.
“Your gas-guzzler kills,” reads the pamphlet.
It encourages commuters to walk, cycle or use public transport, saying electric or hybrid vehicles do little to solve the problem.
According to NewsHub, the spokesperson for the acts says the Tyre Extinguishers will continue doing what they are until the government ramps up its climate change efforts.
Interestingly, that same person apparently drives a Mercedes.
Kind of goes against the point, doesn’t it?
