Spy photographers have snapped Audi’s coupe-SUV bodystyle, the Q5 Sportback, testing on road. The third-generation Q5 Sportback will disrobe in Q3 this year. It should help consolidate the Q5’s status as Audi’s best-selling vehicle globally.
From the images, the sleeker Sportback version of the upcoming GenIII Q5 will use the same front end as the SUV. Slimline headlight clusters and a wider grille give Q5 Sportback a more purposeful face. At the rear is the characteristic Sportback sloping coupe-like roofline. That makes it a rival for the BMW X4, Porsche Macan and the Mercedes GLC Coupe. Q5 Sportback features a twin-exhaust set-up, while Q5 SUV prototypes have a single-exit exhaust system.
The interior of the Q5 Sportback resembles that of its electric stablemate, the Q6. So it gets an 11.9-inch driver’s display, a head-up display and a 14.5-inch central infotainment touchscreen. Expect an optional screen for the front passenger like in the Q6.
New Q5 utilises Audi’s latest Premium Platform Combustion architecture, essentially an update of the existing MLB evo platform. It follows in the footsteps of A5 which debuted PPC. The powertrain line-up is sure to be much the same as the A5’s, with mild hybrid 2.0-litre four-cylinder units and a PHEV. An SQ5 Sportback at the head of the range will get the 270kW 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine, as in the S5.
Both cars should go on sale towards the beginning of 2025 when prices will be announced.
