The BYD Atto 2 is due in Europe soon and might also be coming Down Under. It is a compact SUV, smaller than the Atto 3, and is known as the Yuan Up in China.
The new model was spotted doing energy testing by Green NCAP, an offshoot of Euro NCAP. It will be produced in China, and then in BYD’s new operation in Hungary, along with Atto 3 and Dolphin according to BYD’s European boss, Stella Li.
Likely the base model will kick off with a 42.4kWh usable capacity battery (45kWh total), mated to a 130kW/290Nm front electric motor. It has a WLTP range of 312km.
What is the Atto 2’s real world range?
During testing by Green NCAP, it recorded average energy consumption in the firm’s lab tests of 21.9kWh/100km – against a 16kWh/100km claim – for a real-world projected range of 244km.
How big is the Atto 2?
The Atto 2 is smaller than the 4455mm Atto 3, measuring 4310mm in length and 1830mm in width. Weight is a claimed 1590kg, compared with 1750kg for an Atto 3.

The exterior design isn’t much like the Atto3, and thankfully neither is the cabin. Inside the Atto 2 has more conventional styling where you’ll find a 12.8-inch infotainment screen, an 8.8-inch instrument display, a panoramic sunroof, heated and powered front seats, and leather-like upholstery.
Is the Atto 2 coming to NZ?
According to BYD NZ; “We have plans to launch 15 new models between 1st Jan 2025 and the end of 2026. All planned models are suitable for the NZ market, and will include a vehicle for every segment of the light vehicle market. At the moment, our current model line up includes Dolphin, ATTO 3, Seal, Sealion 6 and Shark 6. Specific new models to market will be announced closer to their individual launch dates.” So maybe, maybe not…
