BYD has announced it sold just over 71,000 electric vehicles (EV) globally in January 2023, with the brand also dominating the New Zealand market during the same month.
It exported around 10,409 EVs in January 2023 which saw the Chinese carmaker become the brand to beat in both Israel and New Zealand.
In China, BYD has sat at the top of the pile for EV sales over the past ten consecutive months with Tesla being the only other brand to lead in April 2022 according to CarNewsChina.
The company has experienced colossal growth in 2022 after selling 50,898 fully electric vehicles outside of China compared to 13,733 in 2021.
BYD currently only sells the Atto 3 in New Zealand of which it shifted 235 units last month, making it the best selling fully electric car brand in the country so far this year.
As for the model’s competitors, all that came close was the MG ZS at 166 units sold.
With regard to Israel, BYD sold approximately 2999 Atto 3s in January 2023, also making it the best selling brand for the month there.
Numbers are only set to get higher though with the carmaker’s analyst predicting it will export a total of 300,000 fully electric vehicles in 2023.
