After just two months on sale, BYD has become Australia’s second-best selling electric vehicle brand behind Tesla, reports Drive.
According to data obtained by the Australian publication, approximately 889 BYDs have already been registered in the country between September and October 2022.
Tesla delivered around 7078 vehicles to customers in the same period, beating out the Chinese carmaker and other brands like MG.
However, BYD faced a stop-delivery notice for nearly four weeks due to compliance issues with Australian vehicle regulations which hampered sales.
The only model from BYD on sale over the ditch is the Atto 3 which has experienced immense success in the New Zealand market.
Kiwi customers got their hands on the model before those in Australia back in August which saw the brand sell 500 examples of the electric SUV by September 2022.
In total, approximately 874 Atto 3s have been sold in New Zealand between August and October this year with that number continuing to grow.
That figure makes it the country’s second-most popular electric car sold in its first three months on sale behind the Tesla Model Y and ahead of the Model 3 in third.
Adding to its appeal, the Atto 3 recently earned itself a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
