BYD Auto New Zealand has today announced details regarding the pricing and specification for its Seal sedan, ahead of the model’s arrival early next year.
Kiwis will have three variants to choose from, including the Dynamic, Premium, and range-topping Performance AWD.
The first of the trio is priced from $62,990 plus on-road costs and comes with a single electric motor at the rear that produces 150kW and 310Nm of torque. Said power is good for a 0 to 100km/h sprint time of 7.5 seconds, while its 61.44kWh battery offers up to 460km of range. Recharging comes by means of a 110kW DC fast charger but BYD did not mention charge times.
Next is the Premium variant which features a bigger 82.56kWh battery that can deliver up to 570km of range. Charge speeds are also increased to 150kW when using a fast charger.
A more powerful 230kW/360Nm motor features on the mid-range model, bringing its 0 to 100km/h time down to 5.9 seconds. A set of 19-inch alloy wheels completes the package for $72,990 plus ORC.
At the top of the pile sits the Performance AWD variant which gains an electric motor up front, giving it an output of 390kW/670Nm which is put to the ground via all four wheels. Thanks to the bump in power, the top-of-the-range Seal can hit 100km/h from a standstill in 3.8 seconds.
However, as the top-spec variant features the same battery as the Premium, it sacrifices a bit of range at 520km. Pricing for the Performance AWD comes to $83,990 plus ORC.
The highly-specified model also features a head-up display, Frequency Selective Dampening (FSD) suspension, and Torque Adaption Control (ITAC), the latter of which is said to improve the model’s driving dynamics.
All Seals are available in Polar White, Atlantis Grey, Cosmos Black, and Arctic Blue, while Shark Grey is only offered on the Performance AWD. No matter which colour you pick, all will come paired with a Thaumus black leather interior.
“We are fizzing about the imminent arrival of the BYD Seal,” says Warren Willmot, General Manager of BYD Auto NZ.
“The interest and demand for the Seal since its public reveal at Fieldays earlier this year has been huge, and to be able to finally announce competitive pricing and specifications for NZ is exciting.”
The Seal is available to order now and will be available for test drives at your local BYD dealership before the end of December. Customer deliveries are expected to take place before the end of Q1 2024.
