Chinese carmaker BYD has announced that it will launch a new four-wheel drive to global markets in 2024.
According the British publication Autocar, the new SUV is the first vehicle in BYD’s F model line which will also include other SUVs and utes.
The model is expected to be unveiled at the upcoming 2023 Shanghai Motor Show in April but details are still being kept quiet.
However, reports say the SUV measures in at 5000mm long and has a wheelbase of 2850mm which is similar to the Mercedes-Benz G-Class.
BYD stated that it will be powered by a petrol hybrid drivetrain with a power output of around 500kW. It isn’t clear whether the SUV will be a conventional hybrid or plug-in hybrid but overall range is said to be in excess of 1200km.
Power is sent through an automatic gearbox and a four-wheel drive transfer case. Autocar also states that the vehicle will also receive front, centre and rear differential locks.
BYD says the new four-wheel drive will be priced between 400,000 and 600,000 Chinese Yuan ($NZ94,147 and $NZ141,227).
It isn’t clear whether or not the model will make its way to New Zealand but the news that it will be launched globally is encouraging.
