MG will show off a chunky new medium SUV, the MG Cyber X, at the Shanghai Auto Show. The company reckons it represents a “groundbreaking innovation” in MG’s history. It looks nothing like current designs.

Images released by MG show a modern “boxy” silhouette with rounded edges. It aims to blend ruggedness with urban utility. The design suggests a sleek, technical approach aimed at younger consumers.
Key features include full-width LED light bars at both ends, split-type headlights, illuminated MG badging, hidden door handles, and roof rails for a clean look. A closed-off grille suggests the Cyber X will be an electric model.
MG is in the midst of a two-year product offensive, including eight new models. Things kicked off last year with the Cyberster, while the GenII MG4 is due out this year. It is followed by two new sedans in 2026 that feature CTB (Cell-to-Body) battery integration. This system adds rigidity and efficiency while reducing weight. Two more SUV models are planned by 2026.

MG will be the first brand to integrate Oppo’s smart connectivity, enabling phone-car integration. It will also debut Zebra 3 OS, for improved voice recognition and enhanced connectivity.
MG’s new E3 Architecture, developed by SAIC, is a modular EV platform capable of supporting a range of vehicles. Semi-solid-state batteries for mass production promise higher energy density and faster charging.
The Cyber X is expected to feature advanced AI and autonomous driving capabilities, powered by Horizon Robotics’ J6 high-performance chip.
Whether or not it is destined for sale outside of its domestic market is unclear. And as to price in its home market, that will be revealed at the motor show. The fact it takes on a Cyber name, however, suggests it may slot in above current high-rise offerings. It is likely to vie with the likes of Smart #5.
MG is on track to becoming the first Chinese automaker to surpass three million cumulative overseas sales. It sold 240,000 vehicles in Europe in 2024.
