David Crawford has announced he will retire as chief executive officer of the Motor Industry Association of New Zealand.
He was appointed CEO of MIA in February 2013 following a 20 year stint working for the New Zealand Government in a variety of senior management positions
His career began in a field outside of the automotive industry though, having studied horticulture at university before completing a post graduate qualification in marketing and economics.
Crawford became a lecturer for five years before moving to Wellington to work for a voluntary organisation.
He then became an environmental economist for the Department of Conservation (DoC) for nearly five years until he got a job at Petroleum Exploration and Product Association of New Zealand (PEPANZ) as its executive director.
Crawford also worked for the Animal Health Board as a contract services manager.
His involvement in the automotive industry began when he became general manager of safety, land transport and the environment for the Ministry of Transport.
Crawford now plans to spend his time behind the handlebars of his motorcycle and touring New Zealand.
His retirement will take effect on March 31, 2023.
