Over the weekend, Alfa Romeo published a teaser image of a new mystery model with the caption “A new era begins”. Could this be its first EV?
All that was shown were the vehicle’s taillights which look awfully similar if not the same to the ones found on the Tonale, suggesting a big change is coming to the model.
Said change is unfortunately left to our imagination, but there’s a chance the model could be getting a fully electric variant. This rings especially true when you consider Alfa has yet to release an EV and has previously stated that it would do so in 2024.
According to the brand’s Head of Products, Daniel Tiago Guzzfame, an electric Tonale is “technically possible” but the model hadn’t yet been decided on back in February 2022.
The taillights could also belong to a high-performance version of the Tonale, likely falling under the Quadrifoglio designation. However, this doesn’t quite give off that “new era” vibe.
Another possibility is that we’re looking at the carmaker’s new compact SUV which has yet to be given a name. However, the taillight design of the unnamed model was leaked in a series of images earlier this year and appears to be a bit different than the one shown here.
With Alfa Romeo set to become an EV-only brand by 2027, it’s probably about time it made a start on its electrification journey and this could very well be it. But all we can do for the time being is “stay tuned” until the covers come off its new mystery model.
